So you have a good blog with a few readers, and your website is looking really pretty, but you are getting very little traffic otherwise, and certainly no sales. What’s wrong?
It doesn’t take a genius to work that one out. If you have traffic but no sales in your online business, then your traffic isn’t targeted enough to the product you are trying to sell. If you have no traffic at all, then you have an even more serious problem. However, don’t despair, because there is an answer to your problem, just as there is an answer to most problems with online business failures.
98% of online businesses fail very rapidly, mainly because the owner has no idea how to conduct a proper internet marketing campaign. The problem with an online business is that it requires a number of different business and technical skills to succeed. Many people who have been successful in their day job decide to transfer that success online because they have seen how much money can be made with a successful online business online business. However, they have missed one important factor.
Most offline business successes are with people who are very good at their job - but how about somebody else’s job? Could they do that as well? You might be a great salesperson, or an ace at marketing. You could be a great designer, or know all there is about the technical side of your products. However, can you do them all? That’s the problem!
To be successful online, you have to know how to design your website and how to carry out the technical optimization to attract search engine attention. You must also understand the difference between selling and marketing, and be able to write killer headlines, sales pages and also good web page content for your website. That’s assuming you know what internet marketing is about and how to use the tools available to attract visitors and keep them on your website. Most people can’t do all that, so most fail.
There is no time to here provide enough information on all of these factors to be meaningful, so let’s have a look at the most significant of them. That which will affect your success the most. The most important of all of these factors is driving visitors to your website and getting your site listed on Google and the other search engines. In other words, marketing and advertising your site. How do you do that?
There are many ways, but Google themselves have recently made it clear which they prefer. Detailed analysis of reasons for web pages being delisted from Google due to duplicate content has made it very clear that duplicate content on article directories is tolerated a lot more than that from any other sources.
In fact, Google regard articles on directory pages very highly, and if you Google just about any keyword, you will normally find one or more article pages on the first results page for that keyword or phrase. It is one way to get listed on Google without a website! However, the main benefits of article marketing are fourfold:
1. You get a backlink from the article directory to the webpage in your resource.
2. You get visitors who click on the link in your resource.
3. You get backlinks when others copy your article as content for their own website.
4. You get visitors from those that click on the resource links from 3 above.
It is almost certain that Google provides more weighting to links from article directories than from reciprocal links, or links from web pages not directly related to the topic of your own web page. Keep in mind that links relate to the web pages, and not the entire website, that the links are placed on.
Another way to get links back to your website or blog is to link one to the other. If you have both a blog and a website, then it is tempting to reciprocal link between them. However, to get the best linking benefit, use only one link: from the one to the other that is the more important. That way either your blog or your website, whichever you deem the more important, will receive a valuable one-way link from the other.
In fact, some create several blogs, and link them all to the one site for maximum linking effect. The more backlinks you have, not only does it affect your traffic, but also your Google listing. Google PageRank is based on links back to your web pages, and the higher the PageRank, the higher the potential Google search engine results position. The value of the backlink partially depends on the number of other links leaving that page, so the fewer other links from your blog pages, the more value that link is to your site.
There is no doubt that backlinks affect your listing position and also the numbers of visitors to your website. Although you can manipulate that by using links from your blogs, besides directory submission (which you can get a good and affordable company to submit yr website to), nothing is as effective as article marketing, and Google themselves have acknowledged that.
