An Unbalanced High School Student Displays Several Alcohol-Related Issues, Gets Suspended From School, And Has To See The School Counselor
Stephen was a eighteen year old high school senior who was manifesting quite a few alcohol-related problems at school. For that reason, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to come back to class.
Later that day when Stephen went home after school, he had to go over his school situation with his Mother and Father. His Mom and Dad were "fairly old-style" and told Stephen that getting discharged from school was not a satisfactory educational plan of action. They informed Stephen that failing to graduate from high school would most probably be like a lead weight around his ankles that could conceivably mar his educational achievement for the remainder of his life. Not only this, but Stephen's Mother and Father were extremely distraught that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his peers in the second.
It was clear that his Mom and Dad were absolutely in accord with Stephen's principal and explained to Stephen that he had better make up his mind to see Miss Pender, the school psychologist. After his dialogue with his Mother and Father, Stephen at last agreed to see Miss Pender the next day. So Stephen phoned the school and made an appointment to see Miss Pender the next day during his sixth period class.
When Stephen arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Pender, she instantly reviewed all of the alcohol-related issues Stephen had gotten into and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related activities caused quite a bit of apprehension by the school administrators.
Quite truthfully, Stephen wondered why the principal explained to him that he had to see a school counselor. As he stated to Miss Pender, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking circumstances? In view of the fact that just about all of his peers drink about as much as he does, essentially, drinking shouldn't be such a big issue. Stated more explicitly, if nearly everyone is drinking, why is this such a big deal?
In a word, Stephen's involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was starting to impede his ability to conduct himself like an accountable young man. As stated by Miss Pender, "Just because most of your peers drink hard liquor, beer, wine coolers, or wine does not mean that it's right for you."
Luckily, Miss Pender was very well prepared for her scheduled meeting with Stephen. She showed him research studies and reports she had highlighted that listed diverse drinking statistics and facts that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Stephen a lot of figures and reports that applied principally to underage drinkers.
After Miss Pender verbalized the aforesaid teenage alcohol and teen alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was apparent that what Miss Pender disclosed to Stephen was a real surprise to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to explain the long term and the short term results of alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to support what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism statistics and facts that related to everybody in general, and chiefly to underage drinkers.
As a matter of fact, it was almost as if a light went on and Stephen instantaneously realized why he should not be engaging in excessive and hazardous drinking with or without his buddies anymore. Stephen thanked Miss Pender for her concern and for the information she presented and then accepted her reinstatement into school.
